Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How can I be sure that my labels will stick and hold fast?

A. With all label products, the glue on the back of the label requires the best possible surface to adhere to. The surface you are sticking your labels on to needs to be clean and dry; free from chemicals, oily substances and in most cases at (or near) room temperature. Most labels will not stick on to rough wood, wax cardboard, cement, woven textiles (canvas, wool) and other irregular surfaces. When placing labels on a new surface, press firmly and evenly along the length of the label with your hand as label stock is pressure sensitive. You may need to rub the label with your hand several times before the label sticks firmly. The heat produced from the friction caused will help the glue bond to the surface it is sticking to. Your label may take up to 24 hours to fully cure depending on your label and the surface you are sticking your label on to. Q. What type of printer do I need to use for my labels?

A. Before using labels on any new printer, it is always recommended that you read the instruction manual for your particular printer. (Most printer manuals are available online to download if required.) Look for warnings AGAINST using label stocks through the printer. Whereas some printers will require print settings to be changed to align with the label stock. The majority of printers are either a Laser Printer (toner cartridges required) or an inkjet printer (ink cartridges used.) Q. What is the difference between paper and synthetic labels?

A. Paper Labels – 80gsm face stock and 50-80gsm backing paper. Paper labels are perfect for a wide range of usages around the office, home, shop, school, healthcare centre and many other daily requirements. Paper labels are available in five fluorescent colours; eight light tint shades and twelve mid range & strong colours. These labels are paper based and therefore are not tolerant to oils, chemicals and full immersion in water. The labels will not last for a significant period of time in an outdoor environment.

Synthetic Labels – Are often referred to as Vinyl or Plastic Labels. Synthetic labels are suited to harsher environments. Our synthetic label materials are ideal for outside or rugged conditions. Some are weatherproof and often used for labels to stick on cars, etc. with excellent adhesive properties. Synthetic labels are also well suited to use in industry where a high durability label is required. Synthetic Labels come in a variety of finishes, including - Matt White, Clear and Translucent (frosted or cloudy appearance). WLK Wine Labels come in both Matt and Gloss white and are designed for best usage in the cooled atmosphere. FR8 Freezer Labels have special glue that adheres best to frozen goods. Labels are not guaranteed for long-term or repeated use in the dishwasher.
